Castles in Shropshire

Speaking of castles in Shropshire, one of our favourites is Stokesay Castle. Part castle, part medieval manor house, this unique building is now owned by English Heritage. There’s also a walled garden, moat walk and cafe.

The peace and quiet at The Dinney is occasionally interrupted by the tooting of the Severn Valley Railway steam locomotives running through the valley. Jump aboard for a nostalgic train ride through beautiful countryside including a stop at the Engine House Visitor Centre. For a different heritage rail experience, take a trip on the Bridgnorth Cliff Funicular Railway.

Towns in Shropshire

Our peaceful rural location is within easy reach of many must-visit market towns in Shropshire. We’re close to historic Bridgnorth, perched on a cliff overlooking the River Severn. A little further along the Severn Valley, Ironbridge – with its fascinating museums – makes for a great day out. The medieval market town of Shrewsbury is just 50 minutes away by car. Forty minutes in the other direction brings you to Ludlow, with its famous castle.

Learn about the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution at Ironbridge Gorge Heritage Museums. You can choose to visit just one of these fascinating museums or buy a ticket that let’s you visit them all over several days – including Blists Hill Victorian Town, Enginuity and the Jackfield Tile Museum.
